what Lord_Cookie said. i was close with someone who believed it was genuine and it caused a feedback loop between his existing psychosis/derealisation and this belief you can shift worlds.

all the "shifting community" is doing is enabling everyone's delusions. it has multiple similarities to religious cults (no, i'm not exaggerating.) for example, it reminds me of the religious extremist concept of a "thoughtcrime" - the idea that thinking of doing a bad thing is just as bad as actually doing it. shifters believe that causing some kind of harm or doing something unorthodox in the alternate reality is a real action - and hence makes you just as bad. this is disgusting when you realise this could cause anyone to believe that their actions in their dreams or daydreams are real. like i said, similar to religious cults.

lucid dreaming is great! nothing wrong with that! but you could cause serious harm to yourself or others by acting like its real (e.g. that person i knew who believed in it was starting to gaslight me (intentionally or not) into believing him - even though i already have enough problems with derealisation to begin with)

if someone can prove that shifting is real, i would love to see it. but there is no way to prove it isn't lucid dreaming and acting like it isn't does real damage to peoples psyche, whether they're in the community or not.

shifting has so many problems:
  1. unhealthy coping mechanism
  2. can cause extreme depersonalisation
  3. can cause extreme unreality
  4. can cause extreme hallucinations as youre basically tricking your mind
  5. ive heard some "methods" are encroaching on closed religious practises
  6. it just doesnt fucking work
  7. it basically is just lucid dreaming and therefore youre making a scientific experience into some weird "harry potter shifting experience uwu" thing n that makes me mad bc its misusing terms and science
  8. if you shift while awake you should go to a doctor because thats hallucinations - or daydreaming i guess, still - n get that checked out
  9. the community is awful, toxic n just not nice

just be safe, take it from a (system, mindspace) adult, this stuff doesnt work and just leads down bad paths, i get you wanna talk with characters in real life but even if shifting works youre going to a world which laws are different from our own, with creatures you dont fully comprehend that could kill you, hurt you, or traumatise you, please. just, go roleplay or something /nm - godforbid

@sl33pdemon: What 13Killz said, mental damage and unhealthy coping tool, also in my case it has triggered derealization and depersonalizing episodes due to being unsure if the "safe word" worked or not. It also is unhealthy since, in some cases it has caused people to "shift" when they're not sleeping which in my opinion is just derealization/depersonalization, hallucionations, or some kind of daydreaming. PLEASE be safe if you do it! - Bee

I wouldn't do it, sleep shifting nor other kinds unless you know safe and not-harmful methods - Atlas
