HI! i've never gotten into Kandi and would love to, where should i start?

Hi, hello!

I adore starting new crafts and after a long while of stalling, I figured I should start Kandis!

A major irritation of mine is starting a craft type (any type of craft) without any background knowledge. Beginner stuff. What kinds of Kandi are there, where to buy supplies, what are some tips and tricks?

so please please please. spread some knowledge for a whimsical beginner?

walmart, hobby lobby, and michaels has a good bead selection , (going in order of price walmart being the least expensive). You can start with making singles, then going a bit more complex like a hello kitty single and start trying cuffs, i find the x base cuff to be the easiest for beginners. really its just about doing what you want to make and having fun w it because kandi isnt always necessarily difficult just tedious . hope this helped!!

i don't know if they have michael's everywhere, but that's where i get my beads. i'm not super skilled at it, but for learning how to do cuffs i'd reccommend following along a video and then attempting to do a pattern on your own

start with singles! they're easy, fun, and you start to build a collection really quickly, plus it gets you used to picking out color schemes and just working with the beads. then i'd move onto youtube tutorials-- 3D cuffs are super simple to learn imo and you get the hang of it really easily. just looking up "kandi cuff tutorial" on the internet will make your life so much easier!

good luck in your kandi journey!!!! you got this!!

start off with singles (Regular bracelets) and then try out a ladder cuff (the easiest cuff in my opinion) and keep moving upwards! Hope you have funhappy

I'd def start with a few singles, and make my way to small multistitch cuffs. you can try peyote, but it took a while for me to understand. If you're wanting to make some 3-d cuffs, you're gonna need to learn how to make an x-base. GingerCandE has a great x-base tutorial on youtube.

I definitely recommend using a needle. it makes the process so much faster and easier

when it comes to buying beads, beadtin and amazon have some good prices. If you'd rather buy in person, Hobby Lobby (even tho they're homophobic) puts their beads on sale (50% off) every other week.

For string I reccomend fabric covered stretch cord. If you can't find that i'd goo with "clear bead 'n stretch" from walmart. It is a bit pricy but it lasts a while.

when making an x-base cuff, if you didn’t do the last row and it’s flaring outward, don’t redo it. it’s supposed to do that. i wish i learned this earlier in because i remade the same x-base like 6 times cause of it crying

There are lots of different type of beads used for kandi, but the main/most popular ones you'll find are Pony Beads and Perler Beads.

Pony beads are the sort of barrel shaped plain beads you see in most wearable kandi like bracelets, necklaces and cuffs. You can buy these from most craft stores and dollar stores.

Perler beads are very small, bit flexible, beads. They are a bit confusing for beginners cause they are called lots of different things. The crafts themselves are called perlers, but the beads could be called Hama, Perler, or PYSSLA (Those ones are from Ikea lol). Hopefully you won't have to worry about that tho, they are pretty recognisable by their shape. Perler beads are used to create pixel art made out of melted plastic. If you want to use these, you'll have to buy peg boards too to place the perler beads on, an iron, baking paper to place on top of the perler beads when you iron them, and also id recommend buying tweezers to place them with. You can buy these at most craft stores and, well, Ikea...

Idk if that made sense actually.

Here's what pony beads look like:

And here's what perler beads look like unmelted:

Hope this helped!
