Calling/Labeling/Identifying Yourself as a 'Kandi Kid'

Who else feels weird calling themselves a ‘kandi kid’?
I’ve never even identified/called myself a kandi kid. It feels weird to me.
Some people have asked if I’m a kandi kid before just out and about and I have a hard time saying ‘yes.’ They get more of an ‘I guess’ or ‘I don’t know, sort of?’ as their answer.
It’s not that I’m ashamed of it [or am in denial] about the group my interests and preferred lifestyle have put me into. I mean, how could I be when I literally wear it on my sleeve when I go out?
I know I’m not the only one who feels this way-
Who else kind of dodges/avoids/feels weird/just doesn't call themselves a 'kandi kid' altogether?

I definitely prefer not to call myself a kandi kid, and I don't have a good reason as to why. Somebody suggested that maybe I just don't feel comfortable within this group yet, but I'm not really sure about that. Anyway, I pretty much agree with what you said. I love my kandi, and making kandi, so I'm not ashamed of this community or anything. The name just never grew on me.

Well, I wouldn't really worry about the label there are silly individuals who will label you anyway for the sake of making things simpler for their brains. There really isn't no standard "kandi kid" since every person I have met who makes kandi vary in all sorts of ways. For myself, I don't think that label works for me since kandi making branched from my love of making all types of jewelry as one of my creative outlets. I've been asked the by only friend I know who goes to raves on occasion if I was a "kandi kid". I just told him no since I really don't know what a "kandi kid" is really like. Making kandi is just one of the things I enjoy like pretty much everyone else on this site.

I've always felt a tad off when labeling myself at all. I used to identify with the "emo's"(omg, remember that?) in middle school, and it felt strange. I HATE labels in general. I don't think we should categorize ourselves as humans just because we have similar interests. But in order to avoid being labeled "scene" by my friends, a few select of us decided to call ourselves kandi kids. Because face it, being "scene" is a disgrace lol. Over the past year and a half, it's kinda grown on me. The term "kandi kids" is a familiar one where I live, so old-schoolers as well as new ones respect it.

I don't consider myself a kandi kid. I simpley consider myself a person who happens to make kandi. I don't like or understand why people classify themselves. Who are we to create theese rules and charisteristics that qualify you to become a "kandi kid" or any other label?
