hi, welcome to the community!!! dance,

my number one tip is: if you live in the us, dollar tree is your friend when it comes to string! they sell packs of cloth-covered string, the pack comes with 4 colors, and each color is 5 yards (15 feet). so there's 4 of them, so each pack has 75 feet of string. all for 1 dollar! i really really recommend it. the clear elastic you can find just about anywhere is okay for stuff you don't really want to stretch (like peyote charms and stars), but stay away from it when making singles and cuffs. the clear string isn't very stretchy, and it's VERY slippery so it's pretty much impossible to tie securely.

also, if you need individual colors of beads, go to micheals, not hobby lobby. not only do they have really horrible values as a company, their beads in general really aren't the best? they're often broken or have rough plastic, and their individual color pony beads are smaller than the average size, which can sort of mess up cuffs if bead sizes are mixed.

joanns also sells big bags of stars and hearts!!! i think they're maybe like 7 dollars? but they're big bags.

have fun!!! and don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do with kandi, it's for everyone. happy

when making ANYTHING big (peyote + multi cuffs, all 3D cuffs, masks, etc.) ALWAYS make sure the thread is pulled tightly (but not too tight-don’t let it snap)

if the thread isn’t pulled tightly it’ll end up looking really bad, trust me, my first carousel cuff and my first mask both looked awful because i didn’t make sure the thread was tight enough

ALSO use good string!! i used to get hat elastic and cut it in half bc it was easier to get than good stretchy string and don’t do that!! most things i made with that didn’t turn out well lol

if you’re looking for tutorials, i would recommend checking out vickymuffins and mood kandi on youtube, they both have great tutorials!!

last (but not least), make sure you don’t exclusively make super cool singles!! i know it’s fun but you gotta make sure that you have an even balance of super cool creative unique singles and more bland/boring ones (such as ones without words on them, only two colours, etc). this is because a) if you just have a bunch of super cool but super specific singles they can be hard to style in outfits and b) if you’re ever interested in trading with strangers that you might see out and about you don’t want to be super attached to every single and not have anything you’d be willing to trade (ofc, if you want to make super unique singles, go ahead!! it’s just if you’re planning to incorporate kandi into everyday clothes or trade randomly then just have some options available :])

anyways, i hope this helped and that you have a great time in the kandi community!! PLUR!! big grin

DON'T BUY FROM HOBBY LOBBY!!!!!!! i've had some materials from there break, and they're outwardly racist and homophobic!

I had also started with rainbow loom so switching to making kandi was pretty confusing for me, but I first started with a pack of Walmart beads and single ones are the best to start with. But the best places to get beads other than Amazon, is michaels, hobby lobby, Walmart. Another online site that I discovered was delish beads because they have cool charms and beads happy

And also welcome big grin
