Gas Mask Respirators, anything supporting the tube besides the stitching?

I have looked around at a lot of the 3D gas masks and noticed its a cuff attached to the flat mask, but how do you get the respirators to hold their shape?

you can stuff the inside or place a piece of plastic or cardboard inside.
