How do you make a 3D gameboy like this?

Like the kind where you stack multiple layers. Or the one where it's like two panels and it's open space in the middle. Thanks http://kandipatterns.com/photo-page/3d-gameboy-color/3417 Kind of like that^^^^

Picture would be helpful. are you talking about perlers or peyote stitch? Im working on a 3D BMO based on this pattern: http://kandipatterns.com/patterns/characters/3d-beemo-sides-front-top-bottom-4470 its pretty simple, and the same shape as a gameboy.
