So I got an iPod Nano 2nd Gen... (help pls)

Wii 5/20/2022 09:30 pm 518

...and I did not plan this out I wiped it and now I can't do anything with it crying

It's quite literally a useless piece of junk right now

Any suggestions on what I should do with it? If anyone knows how to get songs on there in this day and age that would quite literally make my day but otherwise should I just scrap it?

Idk I'm just really frustrated abt this :/

also what storage does it have? 4gb can fit about 1000 songs with the OPTIONAL section instructions/setup!

oh also 4 getting songs: u can either use itunes (DO NOT) or some downloads (bandcamp, official sites, p2p) + winamp to manage the device

you'll need metadata on the mp3 files, song name, artist name, album name. year and genre are optional but pretty cool.

you can then disconnect and reconnect for the next step

FOR WINDOWS DEVICE:

to download winamp: https://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/winamp...
to connect ipod: plug it in and wait for the dooblydoo sound to let you know its connected. you'll probably get a popup from Files to explore the device. close files
the device will pop up under Devices tab, probably as iPod. you can double click on the name to rename it.

(OPTIONAL): save storage space: right click on the name --> preferences --> Transcoding --> tick/check the box that says "Enable transcoding of compatible tracks". THEN: click on "advanced settings" --> force transcoding of compatible tracks if bitrate is over [] kbps. set this to 128kbps. ALSO: force transcoding of compatible lossless tracks. THEN: change both VBR minimum bitrate and VBR maximum bitrate to 128kbps. THIS WILL MAKE THE TRANSFERRING SLOWER, about 1 hour per 600-700 songs if there's enough storage THIS MAKES THE AUDIO QUALITY: decent, but not the best, to save on storage. (END OPTIONAL)

to add songs to winamp itself, go to the upper right and click File --> add media to library. you'll select a folder. the folders should have, for best results: audio file (mp3, wav, flac) WITH metadata, and a cover image (jpg, png).
to then add said songs to the device: right click on the artist/album/song/genre/etc --> send to --> device --> whatever you've named your ipod (ours is named PROPERTY OF [NAME]!!!)

when you're done adding songs, right click on the device again and select "eject". after a few seconds an "OK to disconnect" screen should appear on the ipod. you can now unplug it and plug some headphones in.

IT WILL PROBABLY: take some troubleshooting, feel free to shoot me a dm if you need some help but i'll put some simple stuff here

No metadata on the files you downloaded? click on the track (or for a full album, on 1 of them and then hit ctrl+a), right click --> edit metadata (or ctrl+e) and you can set the metadata there. you can put anything as the genre. go wild.

no album cover? go online, find the album cover, and slap that b-tch into the folder you've got your song files in, "refresh album cover" (right click ont he llama --> refresh album cover) THEN: clear the tracks from the ipod and re-add them, the cover should show up now!

someone put random noises into your download? find another download u got trolled lol

EDIT: it may take me 3-7 days to respond since i dont front all the time and sometimes forget this website exists, but i'll try 2 rememebr!

download itunes, plug it in, itunes will detect it in "recovery mode", itunes will give you the option to recover it. itunes will recover it. tada! fixed big grin

i've done this at least three times by now LMAO, don't worry.
