How do you feel about this?

There is someone on instagram who has a really cool bikini top I want to make, however she will not release how she made it because she sells it on her Etsy account and wants people to buy the top (I think her price was $60 and up). I figured out how to make it, but I don't know if I should. I don't want to insult her by making it, but I don't plan on copying the colors and I'm going to be editing the back of it and the top of it to fit me better and be more conservative like I like it, and I don't plan on making it to sell either. How do you feel about this? Do you think it's disrespectful of me to make it, or should I go ahead. I'm torn on this and I'm looking to my fellow kandi makers for advice.

I think it's yours to make, people create inspiration just by posting their work. As long as your not selling the item then its not infringement on her work for you to make it so that it fits you.

If your not copying it exact, I'd say it's fine. Hello Kitty Bear

I say go for it, because you're not doing it exactly how she did, and because it's online, anybody who really wants to can figure it out. But crediting her for the idea would probably be a good idea as well happy

i feel like is someone post something online (like a pattern on kandi patterns) then they cant control who sees it and copies it, as long as youre not making exactly what she made than i think youre good and even if you were i wouldnt worry about it

If you're not copying it EXACTlY, then i don't see an issue with it. but if you post photos of it online, i'd credit her and say that you got the idea from her.

I totally agree with what Crumpet said, and SycoSquirl. really if you put some thing out there its going to be copied, and people are copying all kinds of clothing stuffs for sale all the time. stores are just for people who cant/dont want to make the item themselves. And true, if you dont post picture or sell it, no big deal theres nothing anyone can do about it. oh go on

If she posts it online she posts it to be copied. Unless on the caption it says it is copyrighted or to not copy it then no big deal, if you do post pictures online of your version of it credit it back to that person saying original idea is of bla bla bla person. I sell kandi too (30-60) but if you credit me back im totally fine with seeing it elsewhere.

If I were you, I would make it but not share photos of it online. If she doesn't find out, she can't object to it and there's no chance of it causing drama.
