Can't Edit Profile

I wanted to edit my profile to add things like my pronouns and whatnot but every time I try to it tells me "username kandicane has already been taken" I know it's taken? I'm the one who took it? If I just leave the username space empty then it says "username too short"

I can't figure out what to do. Can I just...not edit my profile?

Sorry, you are unable to reply. If the thread is still open, you might have been blocked from commenting due to spam or abuse, or we might not have been able to verify that you are a real account. Try updating your profile and interacting more on the site. There are greater restrictions on forum comments due to spam. Spam comments will still not be published, even for verified accounts

@Crumpet: Oh thank you so much!! ^^ I hope it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience! I have some experience with coding and I know maintaining websites can be super frustrating ;u;

I've found the problem. I recently deleted a bunch of inactive users, but some of their profile details were left in a different area of the database. The username KandiCane *was* previously taken by someone else, so that's why you were getting that error. You should be able to change your username back now, if you want to.

I'll have to clear out that old data properly so this doesn't happen to anyone else. I deleted those users in a panic in the middle of the night after receiving a scary email (which turned out to be nonsense), so I didn't do it as carefully as I should have.

Oh no, I’m sorry for the frustration. I’ll take a look at this for you. If there’s a way to get your old username back, I’ll get it back for you. I may not have a chance to check this out today, so it might be tomorrow. I’ll message you when I’ve looked at it.

I might have to temporarily lock you out of your account, so don’t panic if that happens (but I’ll most likely do it at a strange time anyway since I’m on London time).

I tried to fix it by changing to kandi_cane to edit my profile and then changing back to kandicane but it's just really insistent that the username kandicane is taken even though I'm sure it isn't. Maybe that username is just...breaking the site. Idk
