we should have an app for phones

it's kinda inconvient to use the web on my phone to get to this website. i think if we has an app it would make it way easier to answer comments, dms, etc.

This i something that I might be able to help put together at some point in the near future if there is decent enough demand for it. It could easily be done using the same CSS-based language used by Discord.

@Idiotic_Elliot: that’s a valid point of view, I suppose. It’s kind of old school in its current state and I do like that.

But mostly for me it’s the amount of time and money (and likely, additional stress) involved with apps. Apps are so common these days that I think people take them for granted and assume anyone can whip one up on a weekend. For simple apps that can be true, but not for something as complex as this. And then you’ve still got the customer support and maintenance (keeping it compatible with the latest iOS versions etc) once it’s made.

@Crumpet: wouldn't making it into an app kinda make it not a forum site anymore?

i mean i understand why people would like an app for convenience but i kinda think that would destroy the fact that this is a forum site and not as advanced as say, pinterest or instagram.

I love this site because of how easy it is to navigate, and how simple the kandi maker is!

@urloverboy: an app for iOS or Android or both? That’s another issue; it’s complicated to create and maintain apps for both. I’d have to provide customer support, and I don’t have time or money for that either.

If you want to play around with the idea to help you learn how to code apps, like use it as an example app, you can, but like you say, it’s a massive job and there’s a lot of work involved so although I really appreciate the offer, I’m not sure how realistic it is.

Another issue is, I think the database itself needs to be redesigned, because it’s based off of a couple of really old frameworks. But it probably wouldn’t be impossible to get an app to connect to it.

@Crumpet: Hey, I've been looking into creating apps and coding recently, and it would be a major project and would take me a long time, but I'd be willing to try to create an app for this if you approved. No promises that I could do it, since I'm really just starting, but I would love to make the effort

Not possible unfortunately. Apps require a lot of time and/or money, and I don’t have enough of either. Kandipatterns isn’t a proper company with a big budget. It’s literally just me, and the only time I have to work on it is about one day a week. Things might change in the future, but that’s how it is for now.

I was hoping that this new ad service would increase revenue to where I could invest in the site. It seemed like it was going to for one month but has now gone back to normal.
