i think monika's autism coding is something people often overlook. there's a trait very deliberately brought to focus where she doesn't understand jokes very often. this is found within the base game of ddlc (mon-ika segment), side stories (reflection pt. 2), and her twitter. a fright response to conflict is often found exacerbated in autistic individuals, and she freezes at any sign of conflict. she also briefly mentions experiencing rsd in her act 3 talks, although we do never get to see it in action. feeling of disconnect from the world is also common, depersonalization as well, and this is a core piece of monika's turmoil. it isn't entirely just due to the whole "sentient a.i. realizing her friends and world is entirely scripted" thing, she shows hints of this behavior in the side stories as well. (primarily in her poems) additionally, the a.i. in ddlc are not entirely scripted in lore; they're autonomous and reactive, just the same as monika. (monika does mention this herself but it's also shown with natsuki's fourth 'poem' in act 2) i think she realizes this, even just as a little nagging thought in the back of her head, with how much she seems to miss the three and even sort of regret her decision. additionally, looping thought patterns centered around death and also existentialism is found to be more common and she talks often about both. she talks about masking in act 3 in one of her talk segments (albeit she doesn't use the word 'mask' and instead 'faking', it's the same concept.) and says in clear wording that she does so and has difficulty stopping. she has a notable level of social awkwardness that she masks, according to herself. she also has a fixation on love and the amatonormative ideal of romance, preferring the idea over the actuality. perfectionism is also incredibly common in those with autism and its a focal point in trust pt. 1 as well as monika's character as a whole. (ie: control, the poem packaged with the physical copies of ddlc+) she also makes an excessive amount of eye contact, which can be related. (similar to how making too little is often considered a sign.)
