(also the next size smaller would be 24 which im pretty sure is too small for you.)

you can do it, as long as you remove the correct number of stripes, however if you only want to remove a couple you can't because it wont end evenly.

Or you could just remake the pattern with thinner stripes (instead of two or each color only do one)
