I think it's pretty clear that this is designed for fuse beads. Read the title and the message below the pattern. I'm not going to lie to you =p but if you were REALLY dedicated and had a LOT of string and time, you could possibly make this with square stitch using pony beads (Google to learn how to square stitch). This bead layout technically works for ladder stitch too, but I wouldn't recommend that because it probably would come out too floppy.
