Every now and again people like to complain that I'm using the words "rows" and "columns" incorrectly. Let me explain why I talk about columns going across horizontally and rows going vertically:
- Individual rows are horizontal, but the number of rows (layers) increases the height of the pattern.
- Individual columns are vertical, but the number of columns increases the width of the pattern.
