I use "plastic canvas needles". They are metal needles made for sewing plastic canvas projects. They come with blunt or sharp tips, so just make sure you get the blunt tip ones!

I made a Vest that may be a great pattern for you to make a corset with. It holds up pretty good. I use Polyester string for my projects and i ran 3 strands through a carpet need and it holds up great. I suggest a practice piece first so you can figure out how to turn it and make it work. I wear my vest to Ren Fairs.
